Applied GIS-BikeUMD Internship

Hours: 1-2 a week, flexible scheduling

Hourly Rate: unpaid, course credit possible

Internship Description: The Department of Transportation Services is looking for a motivated student to work with the BikeUMD team to use current data to optimize bike parking on campus. The intern will be responsible for working in the field to:
  • Geotag existing bike racks and grade their conditions.
  • Geotag locations where bikes are incorrectly parked and gather real-time data during the internship period to help DOTS prioritize areas for new bike parking facilities.
This will involve hands-on work with ArcMap10, which is cutting edge Graphic Information Systems technology. The intern will be responsible for creating and maintaining a geo-coded database at the direction of the Bicycle Program Assistant. A smartphone is required. No previous experience with GIS is required, though it is considered a plus.

Internship Term: March 2 through May 12, 2020. Opportunity to extend in the Fall semester is available.
