Smith Business Minor Information Sessions

 

The Smith Business Minor program will be hosting two upcoming information sessions for students who would like to explore the possibility of adding one of three Business minors to their academic portfolio. 


Students interested in General Business or the Innovation & Entrepreneurship minors should attend the information session on Thursday, October 1st at 6pm. While those interested in Business Analytics should attend the Tuesday, October 6th session at 6 pm.

 CAREER & INTERNSHIP FAIR, Sept. 23, 24, & 25: 
The annual Career and Internship Fair, hosted by the University Career Center, provides UMD students and alumni with an opportunity to meet with employers to discuss internship, full-time and part-time employment opportunities. Employers are looking forward to meeting undergraduate and graduate students!

Dr. Sharma has a PhD in Development Economics and specializes in teaching entrepreneurship and development, human dimensions of development, and Nepal's plans and policies. Dr. Sharma's area of expertise is in land reform, food security, migration, foreign aid, and development.

M.S. positions available in remote sensing and fire ecology (Sonoma State University) GOOD GRAD SCHOOL OPPORTUNITY!

Two M.S. positions available in the Bentley Lab at Sonoma State University starting in 

Spring 2021 (applications due Oct 31, 2020) or Fall 2021 (applications due Dec 15, 2020).


Students will work on grant-funded projects related to remote sensing (terrestrial laser scanning and drones) of forests in Northern CA to investigate effects of forest management and wildfire on forest structure, carbon accounting and modeling of future wildfire risk.

Those who are interested should email Dr. Bentley (lisa.bentley@sonoma.edu) with a CV and description of: 1) research interests, 2) experience with field work and 3) skills related to spatial data processing, modeling, or coding (e.g., ArcGIS, R, python, Pix4D, etc) to discuss the position before applying.

The National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Response to Terrorism (START), based here at the University of Maryland, is now accepting applications for the Spring 2021 Internship Program! Given the COVID-19 pandemic, START is currently planning to offer our spring internship program remotely pending further guidance from the University of Maryland.

Position Available at the USDA

 

USDA-ARS. Beltsville, in collaboration with the University of Maryland College Park has opened a temporary technician position to work with sUAS servicing, eventually piloting, image post-processing and archiving. Proven knowledge of basic Python is required and ArcGIS Pro knowledge is preferred.

Hello Geographers!


Apply for Gamma Theta Upsilon (GTU), an International Honor Society in Geography! Join GTU to further your study and interest in the geographical sciences and to strengthen professional training through academic experiences outside the classroom. Membership is earned through superior scholarship and therefore it is an honor and a professional distinction. GTU also offers involvement with faculty/staff in the department, eligibility for several scholarships, and nice swag to wear at graduation. The application is very easy to complete with your basic information.

This opportunity is open to students in their 4th semester of study, working towards a Geographical Sciences or related degree or minor, with a minimum 3.3 GPA cumulative and in all Geographical Sciences classes. 

The Geographical Sciences Department will cover a portion of the $40 induction fee. We expect to know more about fees in the next coming weeks. A virtual initiation ceremony will be held the week of September 21st or 28th.

If you applied last Spring, you do not need to re-apply. Please just send an email with an updated GPA and any other changes to your application information.
