About Our Program WVU Geography faculty are engaged in local, regional and global research focused on human-environment relations, climate change, political geography, spatial science, machine learning and deep learning, digital humanities, forest ecosystem modeling, cultural and political ecologies, conservation science, feminist geography, science and technology studies, humanitarianism, land change science, critical cartographies, food justice, and development geography. AGI Invites Applications for New Scholarship for Advancing Diversity in the Geoscience Profession

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE AGI Invites Applications for New Scholarship for Advancing Diversity in the Geoscience Profession ALEXANDRIA, Va. – The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) is pleased to announce its new Scholarship for Advancing Diversity in the Geoscience Profession. The scholarship is a one-time $5,000 award supporting geoscience graduate studies by a U.S. citizen or permanent resident who self-identifies as a member of an underrepresented minority (Black, Indigenous, or Person of Color) and is within two semesters of completing a recognized geoscience program. "The geosciences can thrive only with full participation from all communities, yet research shows that many underrepresented minority students face obstacles in the transition from undergraduate to graduate studies," says AGI Interim Executive Director Sharon Tahirkheli. "Supporting the next generation of aspiring minority geoscientists has perhaps never been more important." The application deadline is February 21, 2021. Gender, Finance, and Power Panel

On March 12th, at 4:00pm in the Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center, the Department of Women's Studies will host the Gender, Finance, and Power Panel. Featured speakers will cover topics ranging from personal wealth management, entrepreneurship, and navigating the world of business. GIS Job Opportunity at Steer

Steer, an international consultancy specializing in transportation, is hiring recently graduated GIS students to join their offices in Boston and New York. They are working on a number of passenger rail and public transit projects, ranging from five to 40 year plans. This work relies on GIS and a service timetable application called ATTUne. Senior Marshals Recruitment

The Office of Special Events is currently recruiting for Senior Marshals at the Main Commencement ceremony on Tuesday, December 19th, 2017!

Qualified candidates must be graduating in December 2017 to be selected. If selected, the marshals will represent their college and the entire graduating class. The graduates chosen for this honor will be recognized at the campus-wide graduation ceremony and will receive a medallion commemorating their achievements. Senior Marshals will also assist with the organization of the student processional and will be seated in the front rows for the ceremony. The names of all marshals will be printed in the program and you will be acknowledged as a group from the podium. 

All Marshals are expected to attend both the Commencement rehearsal on Monday, December 18th and the Main Commencement ceremony on Tuesday, December 19th, 2017.

The Center for Geospatial Information Science (CGIS) at the University of Maryland is pleased to present the Master of Professional Studies in Geospatial Intelligence (MPS GEOINT). The MPS GEOINT program provides workforce-focused technical training that gives graduates the skills and expertise to lead new initiatives in the rapidly shifting landscape of GEOINT applications, data collection systems, analytic methods, and mission support.

                                   

The MPS GEOINT program encompasses a 30-credit (10 units of 3-credit courses) course structure comprising five core courses and a selection of five other elective courses from a list of choices. We also offer a Graduate Certificate in Professional Studies in Geospatial Intelligence (GCPS GEOINT) that entails 12 credits based on four courses.

We are now accepting applications for admission in Spring 2018 (Application deadline: Feb 15, 2018) and Fall 2018. We are happy to discuss admission requirements on an individual basis.
