GIS Summer Intern
Compensation: Paid Internship
Employment Type: Part time for 12 weeks
Location: Falls Church, VA or Remote
We are currently seeking an enthusiastic intern who possesses an insatiable curiosity, dedication to quality, and a desire to gain experience from a rapidly growing company. The ideal candidate will have experience with geographic information systems and data management, and will have excellent communication skills. Competitive candidates will also have working knowledge of Python.
Position Summary:
This position is primarily responsible for data management, product creation, and maintenance of geospatial content for Tesla’s contractual programs and their overall GIS platform.
Required qualifications:
- Excellent at organizing disparate written and visual material and presenting it in a coherent manner
- Proficiency with GIS software and data management
- Knowledge and experience working with web-based GIS (AGOL, etc)
- Highly refined research and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to meet deadlines without compromising quality
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills
- US Citizen
Highly desirable qualifications:
- Experience with database management
- Knowledge and experience with markup languages/scripting (particularly Python)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):
- Work closely with GIS team to organize, structure, and update geographic data
- Work closely with GIS and other teams to organize existing mapping products
- Locate, acquire, store, analyze, maintain, and display geospatial information
- Locate and extract geospatial and attribute information that can be visually represented from select sources
- Provide technology transfer and instruction to other staff in the use of geospatial product creation
- Identify additional potential mapping capabilities, including new software and technical solutions such as models and scripts to automate regular processes
Technical Experience:
Essential knowledge includes: GIS desktop software (ArcGIS Pro AND open source options); Web GIS software (ArcGIS Enterprise and/or ArcGIS Online); Spreadsheet software (MS Excel at a minimum); familiarity with OSX and Windows operating systems.
Education/Experience:
Undergraduate or graduate degree (completed or in progress) in related field.
