Derry Allen served at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in various roles for 37 years, focusing on a wide range of environmental and sustainability issues. He was presented with the agency’s Distinguished Career Service Award upon retirement. He also served at several other federal agencies— and as elected leader of three nonprofit organizations in Washington, DC. He serves on the board of the EPA Alumni Association, co-chairing a project on the future of environmental protection and EPA.

Thomas RaShad Easley is the Assistant Dean of Community and Inclusion at Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies. He assists with enhancing diversity by promoting access to education, and developing programming around workplace equity. Before Yale, he served as the diversity director of the College of Natural Resources at North Carolina State University for 13 years, where he taught courses, advised students, engaged in community activism, and consulted with faculty and staff on programming inclusive to all populations.

Greg Gershuny leads the Energy and Environment Program at The Aspen Institute. Greg previously served as the associate director for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Policy and Systems Analysis, as well as Director of Energy and Environment at the White House Office of Presidential Personnel. He also worked as a policy aide to the Associate Director for Science at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.

Julie B. Zimmerman is an internationally recognized engineer whose work is focused on advancing innovations in sustainable technologies. Dr. Zimmerman is a professor in the Yale Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering and School of Forestry & Environmental Studies, where she also serves as the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. Her work established the fundamental framework for her field with her seminal publications on the “Twelve Principles of Green Engineering” in 2003. Professor Zimmerman is co- author of Environmental Engineering: Fundamentals, Sustainability, Design, associate editor of Environmental Science and Technology, and a member of the Connecticut Academy of Sciences.

Elliot Gerson is an executive vice president at the Aspen Institute, responsible for its policy programs, public programs, and relations with international partners. The Institute’s more than 30 policy programs provide neutral venues to do nonpartisan analysis, foster candid dialogue among leaders, advocate new policy, and promote best practices. Public programs, including the Aspen Ideas Festival, Aspen Words, the Aspen Program in the Arts, and the Socrates Seminars open its doors to broader audiences. Gerson also administers the US Rhodes Scholarships. He previously practiced law, was a US Supreme Court clerk, held executive positions in government and on a presidential campaign, was president of health care and education start-ups, and led two national insurance and health care companies. He has served on many nonprofit boards, especially in the arts.
