Description: The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) has an immediate opening for a Program Associate to work in our innovative Critical Issues program making impartial geoscience information more accessible to decision makers, particularly at state and local levels. This is a full-time position based at AGI headquarters in Alexandria, Va.
We seek candidates who are enthusiastic about promoting the importance of the geosciences to diverse audiences. The Program Associate will be the lead organizer for Critical Issues Forums, which are a key component of the program. S/he will work closely with the Critical Issues team to plan, organize, and publicize Critical Issues webinars, create geoscience-based content for the website, build strong audience participation in the program, and to serve all the needs of a developing program.
Candidates must be able to work collaboratively and tactfully with AGI staff and many external stakeholders; have superb organizational skills including scheduling time, tasks, and other people effectively, and paying careful attention to detail; have excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; have strong computing skills (Word, Excel, Twitter essential; graphics and web page content management desirable); and candidates should understand the scope, content, and value of the geosciences.
Master’s or higher degree in geoscience, science communication, or science policy strongly preferred. Experience in outreach, event management, and/or science communication desired. Candidates must already be eligible to work in the United States.
