PAID Internship opportunity with National Park Service Baltimore

GIS Intern – National Park Service - Hampton National Historic Site, Towson MD

Hampton National Historic Site has an opportunity for a GIS intern this summer. Pay is $17 - $20 per hour. We have GIS geometry for approximately 650 trees from a Cultural Landscape Inventory. There is no need for an AutoCAD conversion. The bulk of the project is reviewing and formatting an Excel table, bringing the table into ArcGIS Pro, and joining that table with the existing GIS geometry.

  • These are the data points that will be associated with each tree location;
  • Tree ID (from cultural landscape report)
  • Name ID (from cultural landscape report)
  • Location: X coordinate, Y coordinate
  • Tree Scientific Name
  • Tree Common Name
  • DBH *
  • Tree type: Deciduous/Evergreen
  • Planted Date
  • Tree Height
  • Tree Canopy Spread
  • Number of trunks
  • Condition
  • Structural Issues
  • Diseases & Pests

Depending on time and funding, the intern could begin field verification of data points to begin filling out missing information from the tree inventory.

Hampton’s website can be found at Hampton National Historic Site (U.S. National Park Service) (nps.gov)

Interested applicants should contact William Vondrasek, Chief of Facility and Landscape Maintenance at William_vondrasek@nps.gov

We are flexible on start date and expect work to be done during the summer.
