Project Description

My NASA Data seeks an intern to develop resources using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) with remotely-sensed data to promote understanding of Earth system phenomena for students and teachers in grades 3-12. This opportunity is intended for individuals who are interested in practical applications of remote sensing and GIS, specifically in the field of Earth Science. My NASA Data currently provides GIS resources (i.e., storymaps and web apps) that focus on regional, national, and global Earth System Science phenomena while utilizing NASA’s Earth observations. This internship will help to build and improve the resources in this collection. The scope of this internship includes but is not limited to: evaluating and improving upon existing My NASA Data visualizations using ESRI ArcGIS Online Storymap tool based on teacher feedback researching and gathering information for the creation of ESRI storymaps and interactive models working with NASA Earth data through the NASA Earth Science Earth Observing System Data and Information System (EOSDIS) and other data sources creating new interactive models for teachers and students in grades 3-12 within the framework Next Generation Science Standards developing support materials for classroom implementation Applicants must have experience developing storymaps and web apps using ArcGIS and remotely sensed data, as well as exhibit excellent communication and writing skills, and be able to work in a fast-paced (virtual) environment.

The individual should have the following skills: General experience with GIS tools and/or procedures. Expertise in mapping data formats and tools. Geosciences. Ability to work and be accountable in a highly productive team. Ability and self-discipline to work in a virtual environment. Able to collaborate with multiple individuals at varying levels. Possess strong time management skills. Have organizational skills and strategies. Possess strong writing and verbal skills. Possess a disposition for communication and cooperation. Analytical. Creative. Data-literate. Computer-literate. Requires a degree in STEM field or seeking a degree in STEM field. Prior experience with developing geospatial products particularly using remotely-sensed data is a must. Degree in Earth Sciences preferred.
