Description: The Chesapeake Bay Trust is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a Program Coordinator on our grants administration team. The Program Coordinator will serve as the lead for a stormwater restoration project rebate program focused on homeowners and other landowners in Prince George’s County. Duties will include soliciting, reviewing, and administering rebate requests from individual homeowners, businesses, non-profit groups and other landowners and working with our Prince George’s County partners. Site visits prior to and after rebate project completion will be required, with an anticipated average of three days office work and two days in the field per week. The Program Coordinator position will also contribute to other programs, including our environmental education work and other programs as the Program Coordinator progresses at the Trust. The position will report to the Director of Programs and Partnerships.

Established in 1985, the Chesapeake Bay Trust is a private, non-profit, grantmaking institution dedicated to promoting public awareness and participation in the restoration and protection of the Chesapeake Bay. In the past decade, the Trust has doubled its grantmaking, with current annual grant-making of $9 million. The individual will be a key member of a thirteen-person staff and his/her lead program will be a key components of a portfolio of grant programs focused on K-12 environmental education, citizen engagement, and on-the-ground restoration. The Trust embraces professional development and aims to help the successful candidate advance in his/her career, learn about the social science underpinnings of residential stormwater incentive programs, and become involved in other aspects of grant-making in watershed restoration and education.

Duties: Serve as lead of the Trust-Prince George’s County Raincheck Rebate Program, including:
  • Soliciting, reviewing, and administering rebate requests from individual homeowners, businesses, non-profit groups and other landowners
  • Advertising the opportunity at workshops, festivals, community events, and other appropriate venues as determined by the Program Coordinator and in cooperation with our county partners.
  • Working with homeowners and other applicants to understand the program and submit applications
  • Conducting site visits prior to and after rebate projects are completed
  • Reporting on the Raincheck Rebate Program to funding partners
  • Assist with review of small grant requests in K-12 environmental education and outreach.
  • Participate actively in the grants team at the Trust and in the Trust community.
  • As the Program Coordinator develops, as appropriate, assist or serve as lead of other Trust grant programs and initiatives.

Qualifications: Required Experience and Skills:
  • Minimum one year professional experience in the environment, natural resources, and/or policy fields.
  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in environment, natural resources, policy, or other closely related field.
  • Demonstrated experience with small-scale stormwater projects, such as rain gardens, rain barrels, and pervious pavement.
  • Demonstrated experience with outreach and working with diverse groups of people
  • Ability to conduct site visits to project locations submitted by grant/rebate applicants
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of programs.
  • Ability to tackle multiple tasks in a timely and effective manner.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and in team settings in an office environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Personal vehicle and valid driver’s license required to facilitate site visit travel.

Description: The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) has an immediate opening for a Program Associate to work in our innovative Critical Issues program making impartial geoscience information more accessible to decision makers, particularly at state and local levels. This is a full-time position based at AGI headquarters in Alexandria, Va.
We seek candidates who are enthusiastic about promoting the importance of the geosciences to diverse audiences. The Program Associate will be the lead organizer for Critical Issues Forums, which are a key component of the program. S/he will work closely with the Critical Issues team to plan, organize, and publicize Critical Issues webinars, create geoscience-based content for the website, build strong audience participation in the program, and to serve all the needs of a developing program.
Candidates must be able to work collaboratively and tactfully with AGI staff and many external stakeholders; have superb organizational skills including scheduling time, tasks, and other people effectively, and paying careful attention to detail; have excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; have strong computing skills (Word, Excel, Twitter essential; graphics and web page content management desirable); and candidates should understand the scope, content, and value of the geosciences.
Master’s or higher degree in geoscience, science communication, or science policy strongly preferred. Experience in outreach, event management, and/or science communication desired. Candidates must already be eligible to work in the United States.

Intern for a Day connects undergraduate students with alumni, parents, employers and community partners for one day internship/shadowing experiences. During your visit, you may accompany your host to meetings, participate in informational interviews with other staff members or work on small projects. We hope this short-term experience will help you clarify your career interests and explore the world of work.  In spring 2015, we matched 350+ students with an Intern for a Day host.  A wide variety of career fields and industries are represented in the Intern for a Day program.
