I Define my Shell: Solidarity Events
On November 12, the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program (DACA). DACA is a program that protects undocumented students / UndocuTerps from deportation and provides a work permit. Given that this program is under threat of being canceled we invite you to show solidarity with UndocuTerps by engaging today and up until our day of action on November 12, 2019.
The Undocumented Student Program has begun to show our solidarity with the undocumented immigrant community through various events and will continue to do so through November 12.
Whether you are an immigrant yourself, have family who is an immigrant, are in solidarity with immigrants, are part of a student organization, faculty committee, or staff affinity space on campus,or you simply want to learn more, we encourage you to show your support and show up to these opportunities and support our immigrant community!

Nov 5
11:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m (STAMP).- Snap a pic or boomerang
Take a picture in support of the immigrant community! We will be tabling outside of Stamp with the Undocumented Student Program, Coalition of Latino Student Organizations, and Political, Latinxs United for Movement and Action Society.
5:00 - 6:00 p.m. (STAMP Engagement Conference Room 0110)- Learn more about the UndocuTerp Community
Attend an UndocuTraining and learn more about the experiences of undocumented students at UMD and in the DMV area.

5:30 p.m.( Stamp Studio A) - Make a poster to show your support!
Attend this poster making and rally informational to get those creative juices going and help prepare for the rally by making signs and learning more about the rally and #HomeIsHere campaign.

Join us in DC and rally in support of DACA and the undocumented immigrant community outside the Supreme Court and while the oral arguments are being heard.

Surround yourself by the community who support undocumented immigrants, enjoy dinner and listen to student's journeys and how they are defining their shell within and beyond UMD.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is pleased to announce the availability of scholarships for undergraduate students majoring in disciplines related to oceanic and atmospheric science, research, or technology, and supportive of the purposes of NOAA’s programs and mission. Over 100 students are selected each year for participation in the Ernest F. Hollings and Educational Partnership Program (EPP) scholarship programs. These scholarships include support for two years of undergraduate study and summer internship opportunities at NOAA facilities across the country.

- 3.0 GPA (Hollings) or 3.2 GPA (EPP)

- Majoring in NOAA mission disciplines, including but not limited to: atmospheric science, biology, cartography, chemistry, computer science, education, engineering, environmental science, geodesy, geography, marine science, mathematics, meteorology, oceanography, physical science, photogrammetry, physics, etc.
- Enrolled at a Minority Serving Institution (EPP Scholarship only)

This is an excellent way to undertake useful work experience while exploring a fascinating country.
***On a summer program in China you will teach English or lead outdoor activities to help Chinese students (usually from 7-16 years of age) grow in confidence, develop their language skills and foster soft skills which will be invaluable to them throughout their life. You will receive TEFL training online prior to departure, and will work towards your TEFL certificate during your time in China, with the time you spend in the classroom building up your teaching experience. These skills will be extremely useful in any career you wish to pursue, and an understanding of Chinese culture will be vital to your international career.
