Esri Lecture

Deirdre Dalpiaz Bishop is the Chief of the Geography Division at the U.S. Census Bureau. In that role, she leads a team of over 200 employees focused on the development of a national geospatial database that will support the 2020 Census and the bureau's ongoing surveys.
In this presentation, Ms. Bishop will discuss the role that GIS is playing in facilitating the 2020 Census and programs across the Geography Division and agency. She will share her insights on being the leader of a GIS program and how it can support leadership and department-wide initiatives at the federal level. And Ms. Bishop will talk about interaction between federal agencies and state and local governments and the critical role these relationships play.
Her presentation will be followed by engagement with attendees and a tech update on the Esri Redistricting app. The constitutionally mandated redistricting process is dependent on decennial census data and will be undertaken by the states beginning next year. Esri's redistricting solution provides an agile platform for use in developing and refining district boundaries that align with legal requirements and historical precedents.
