The S Word Free Film Screening Oct 7

This fall, the BSOS Alumni Chapter Board has teamed up with a few non-profit organizations to bring a film screening of The S Word, a documentary film that follows survivors of suicide attempts to raise awareness about suicide prevention and resources, to campus. Following the screening, a short panel discussion of the film will be discussed, as well as resources from both campus and non-profit organizations will be shared. This event is free and open to the UMD community. This screening will take place at the Hoff Theater on Monday, October 7th at 6 PM. For full details, visit go.umd.edu/thesword

Suicide is the second leading cause of death among youth ages 10–19 in the U.S. (source) And given the unfortunate loss of life that occurred off campus this summer, which was just featured in the Diamondback (click here), we need as many campus partners to share and remind students about resources available to them, which could make all the difference! Again, If you or someone you know is in crisis, dial 1-800-273-8255 or text 741741. The University of Maryland’s Counseling Center also offers after-hours counseling services by phone at 301-314-7651.
