Commencement Ceremony Opportunity for Graduating Students!

Hello Graduating Students!

Congratulations on your upcoming graduation! If you want to make your graduation experience more special, the Geography Department has an exciting opportunity for you all!

For the first time in recent history, the department is going to select a student speaker to give a speech for the Geographical Sciences/ Anthropology Commencement Ceremony on May 20, 2017. This opportunity is open to all students participating in the commencement! If you want a chance to reflect on your experience these past few years with all of your peers, consider applying for this opportunity!

Applications are due by April 14 and can be accessed by clicking here.

There is not a set format for your speech, so you're free to craft it as you like! We'd love to hear about your fond memories and accomplishments with the department or at UMD, in general.

A basic template you could use to outline your speech could go as follows:

a. Greeting members of the audience on behalf of the graduating class
b. Ability to celebrate the accomplishments of the graduating class
c. The means to reflect upon the past few years
d. The capability to convey a message for the future

The time limit for this speech is 5 minutes.

If you have any questions, please contact Amanda Hall (ahall2@umd.edu). We hope you apply for this wonderful opportunity!

*Finalists will be notified by April 21.
