The Urban and Sustainability Research Group at Texas A&M University's Department of Geography is looking for MS and PhD students interested in studying urban sustainability.
Particularly, graduate students who are interested in human-environment interactions in urban contexts. Ongoing research themes include:
In addition to the above research interests, students should have, or be interested in developing:
- Urban land-change analysis and modeling
- Environmental impacts of urbanization across scales
- Water-Energy-Food (WEF) nexus issues in urban and peri-urban areas
- Exposure and vulnerability of urban areas to natural hazards
Funding is available for up to four years (through graduate teaching and research assistantships and fellowships) with the potential for additional support thereafter. NSF Spatiotemporal Innovation Center Research Assistant
The NSF Spatiotemporal Innovation Center (STC) is looking for 4 - 6
undergraduate research assistants to serve as NSF REU Summer Fellows in 2018. They will potentially work at George Mason University Site (Fairfax, VA), Harvard University site (Cambridge, MA), or University of California, Santa Barbara site (Santa Barbara, CA).
This opportunity is supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF) I/UCRC and Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Programs which enable undergraduate students to obtain research experience and consider a career path in spatiotemporal domains (e.g., GIS, CS, Geosciences, etc.). NSF REU Student interns will work in a team with graduate students, postdocs, and faculty at one of the three center sites and will conduct research related to spatiotemporal issues. NSF fellows also have the opportunity to attend a professional conference to present their research results. Students may participate in various projects.

The National Garden Fellowship - Applications due Friday
We are happy to announce that the application for the 2017 National Garden Fellowship is now live.
The application and more information can be found here. This 10-week intensive Fellowship is located at the U.S Botanic Garden (USBG) in Washington, DC and is funded through the National Fund for the U.S. Botanic Garden (NFUSBG). This is an educational Fellowship that works closely with USBG Education Staff to facilitate the Hands on Plants Science (HOPS) summer program. During HOPS the National Garden Fellow learns how to prepare and run sixteen different hands on modules, as the National Garden becomes an outdoor classroom where urban students and teachers dissect flowers, learn how seeds travel, use microscopes, and analyze soil.
Applicants must be at least a rising college senior, preferably with a background in environmental education, plant-science, or horticulture. A $6,000 stipend is provided. This Fellowship is a unique opportunity to work with one of our Nation’s longest operating Botanical Gardens - an urban oasis located right in the heart of Washington, DC. The deadline for applications is Friday, February 2, 2018.

The Center for Geospatial Information Science (CGIS) at the University of Maryland is pleased to present the Master of Professional Studies in Geospatial Intelligence (MPS GEOINT). You're invited to join us for an online information session for our master's degree in GEOINT. Reserve your place here today to register for this event.
The MPS GEOINT program provides workforce-focused technical training that gives graduates the skills and expertise to lead new initiatives in the rapidly shifting landscape of GEOINT applications, data collection systems, analytic methods, and mission support. The master's program may be taken on a full-time or part-time basis, and may be taken fully online or on-site. The MPS GEOINT degree can be completed in as little as 15 months.
