This course invites students to consider educational reform through a refreshing critique of problems and possibilities, taking a close look at various forms of schooling and alternative forms of education, including homeschooling, unschooling, and other informal learning environments (ILE). A thoughtful examination of learning in myriad settings helps reveal the power of teachers and families to influence the next generation of children. We invite students to examine the pros and cons of our current education system in the U.S. and to engage in re-imagining and strengthening public education for all children.
