I hope all is going well!. I just wanted to let you know about the pending release of the William Lapenta NOAA Student Internship Program application on Nov 20. The deadline for application is February 1, 2021. Undergraduate students (must have completed their second year) as well as graduate students are eligible.This program, once the domain of the National Weather Service, has expanded to the Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research (OAR) labs and programs this year, offering a diversity of new experiences at NOAA. Because OAR is the hub for NOAA research, the focus of the program has also broadened to include such areas as climate impacts on terrestrial and marine species, Earth system science, air-sea interactions, coastal inundation, global modeling, atmospheric chemistry, as well as social science.Please see the link below or contact me for more information. Attention SOPHOMORES studying atmospheric and oceanic sciences, environmental engineering, environmental sciences and policy, or ANY major with a strong environmental focus or interest!
The Hollings Scholarship provides two-year academic scholarships (up to a maximum of $9,500 per year) for full-time study, and a 10-week, full-time, paid internship position ($700/week) the summer after junior year at a NOAA facility. In the last six years, 29 Maryland students have won Hollings Scholarships!

Eligibility requirements: applicants for Hollings Scholarships must be US Citizens; and must have GPA's of 3.0 or higher each semester and in their major.

Are you a sophomore or junior strongly committed to making a difference in environmental issues through your studies, community service, and career plans? Do you have an outstanding record of activism, leadership, and research on environmental issues? Do you have an excellent record of undergraduate studies, internships and/or research related to the environment?
Learn about the Udall Scholarship in Environmental Issues, a program that seeks to identify future environmental leaders in fields including public policy, engineering, science, education, urban planning and renewal, business, health, justice, and economics. Udall Scholars take part in a five-day conference in Tucson, Arizona where they meet with other Scholars, elected officials and environmental leaders. Scholars also gain access to a network of environmental policy professionals through the Udall Alumni listserv. Students from all majors are eligible.
Award Amount: The Udall Scholarship provides up to $7,000 for tuition, room and board, or other educational expenses. Udall Scholarships may be used for tuition, fees, books, room and board, or other specifically approved expenses.

Join us for the Fall 2020 Alternative Breaks Dialogue Program!
Program Details:
The Alternative Breaks Dialogue Program looks to build a world in which UMD students are empowered learners in community together, taking action toward just causes.
Through deliberative and reflective dialogues addressing global social issues, student participants will exchange and evaluate different ideas and approaches that challenge specific social, political and economic structures of our global community.
Interested students must be willing to commit 1.5 hours/week for 5 weeks between October 19th, 2020 - November 16th, 2020.
The experience is free.
Who should participate?:
Any student that wants to explore community development, civic engagement, local issues, leadership, and service.
Undergraduate and graduate students interested in exploring social issues that include environmental conservations, education, socioeconomic inequality, healthcare, and more.
How will you benefit from participating?:
Connect with a community of peers from across campus and create new friendships.
Develop and practice personal and group leadership skills such as active listening, reflection, critical thinking, and communication.
Learn how to effectively engage in constructive dialogue
What should I expect?
Active engagement in personal reflection, listening, small group dialogue, and small group activities.
Thought-provoking questions and dialogue around social issues
Make connections between social issues and your academic, personal, professional, or civic life.
Identify at least one action step to take towards a social issue you are passionate about
