Location:              Washington, District of Columbia (United States)
Description:        ACA is seeking a Spring 2015 GIS intern for our DC office in Farragut to assist in technical analyses. The internship will require conducting basic research and preparing maps related to key issues in the Andean Amazon, such as protected areas and development projects. There may also be a remote sensing component dealing with analysis of satellite imagery. Overall, this internship would also provide a great experience to learn about nonprofit management and a chance to contribute to the conservation of one of the most diverse ecosystems in the world.

Dates of the internship are flexible, but should last roughly from January through May. Preference will be given to interns who can commit two full days/week, but some work may be conducted from home. Internships are unpaid; if you are seeking credit for this internship, we are more than happy to work with you and your school to make that happen.

Responsibilities:
·         Preparing and analyzing maps related to key issues in the Andean Amazon, such as protected areas and development projects.
·         Creating GIS map packages
·         Analyzing satellite imagery, particularly Landsat

Duration:             5 months
Approximate Hours Per Week:  15
Qualifications:   GIS skills at the user level (junior analyst)
Familiarity with ArcGIS version 10.2 and creating map packages
Spanish skills are preferred but not required
Interest in conservation
Ability to multi-task and work in a team environment
