Intern in Maui with the Ocean Mammal Institute

If spending your winter break in Maui to study endangered humpback whales sounds good to you, then consider applying to the Ocean Mammal Institute’s Research Internship!

This internship focuses on the affects of boat traffic and human influences on the humpback whales.  The research done through this internship is heavily based on field research.  During January the humpback whales are giving birth and mating, so the Hawaiian waters are busy with adult and very young whales.

A little background on the Ocean Mammal Institute: OMI is a non-profit and was founded in 1994 by Dr. Marsha Green.  OMI is dedicated to protecting our ocean’s marine mammals through education and research.  Through this internship, you will have the opportunity to learn about the humpback whales, ocean pollution, marine mammal captivity, and other environmental issue from Dr. Marsha Green herself.  All Majors welcome!!

Anyone interested should make sure they come to the Geography meeting tonight (Wednesday, April 8) because Amanda Daly, who was an intern last winter, will talk a little more about this internship.  There is also an information meeting tomorrow, Thursday April 9, from 4-5pm in the Hornbake Career Center for anyone interested.
